Settings and secrets

Give your app the values and keys it needs, without putting them in the code.

Why use it

Most apps need a few values that are not in the code: the address of another service, a feature switch or an API key. Apervia keeps these for each environment, so a test copy and the live copy can use different values.

Set a value

  1. Open the app and select the environment.
  2. Open Configuration.
  3. Add a name and a value. Mark the value as a secret if it is a password or a key.
  4. Save. Apervia restarts the app with the new value.

A secret is never shown again after you save it. To change it, type a new value.

Values that your build needs

Some tools, for example Vite, put a value into the app when it is built. A name that starts with VITE_ is one of these. Put it in the build settings, and push a change to use it.
